Why gas cookers must be fitted by a Gas Safe engineer
In the UK it is a legal requirement (Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998) for any gas appliance — including a cooker or hob — to be connected by a Gas Safe registered engineer. A badly connected cooker can leak gas, tip forward, or burn incompletely and produce carbon monoxide. Many home insurers and new-cooker warranties also ask for proof of a registered install.

- Your kitchen is being refitted and the cooker needs moving

Common questions about gas cooker & hob installation.
Honest answers from our Gas Safe registered Lancashire engineers. Can't see your question? Get in touch.
Do I need a Gas Safe engineer to fit a gas cooker?
+−
Yes. By law any gas cooker, hob or range must be connected by a Gas Safe registered engineer. It also keeps your cooker warranty and home insurance valid. We leave you with a written record of the installation.
How much does it cost to fit a gas cooker in Lancashire?
+−
It depends on the appliance (freestanding cooker, built-in hob or range) and whether there is already a gas point in the right place. Tell us the make and model and we will give you a free, fixed price before we start — call 01282 914 044 or use the quote form.
How long does a cooker installation take?
+−
A straight swap on an existing bayonet point usually takes 45–60 minutes, including the gas tightness test and safety checks. A new hob or a new gas point takes 1.5–3 hours.
Can you take my old cooker away?
+−
We disconnect and cap the old cooker safely and can move it out of the kitchen for you. Many retailers collect old appliances on delivery — let us know when booking.
Do you disconnect cookers for kitchen fitters?
+−
Yes — we regularly disconnect and cap gas supplies before kitchen refits and come back to connect the new hob or cooker once the worktops are in.
